Benefits
What sets this club apart from the rest?
|
They are only too happy to accept "Foreign" Marshals at their top event of the year - The Canadian Grand prix.
Unlike the British GP where you have to satisfy the MSA with at least 15 days marshalling a year and have to volunteer for the grade you currently hold, the ACIND volunteering form is so much simpler. (That's NOT to say that you will automatically be accepted)
You may need a reference from your UK marshals Club for first time officials in Canada, after that you usually remain on the mailing list and more than likely get an invite in the post the following year.
When on post you are expected to be able to perform all duties with competence (Incident, Flag, Communications)

The Canadians and US Marshals do things a little different than in the UK, but you'll soon catch on! | Added by observer 03/01/2003 14:07

The Canadian Officials will expect any Marshal at their GP to be experienced in Formula 1.
At least three GP's under your belt is reccommended and you will need to demonstrate that you are competent in Incident Handling/Safety/Flagging - therefore "Trainee" Officials, and those who normally do "Non-Track" marshalling (Pits/Paddock/Assembly etc) willnot normally be accepted for trackside duties.
Likewise those who normally only marshal at Hillclimbs, Sprints, Karts etc will not be accepted at the GP (Unless you do Race marshalling as well) | Added by observer 11/03/2003 13:26

Organisation
Organisation and professionalism on the day, and in dealing with your queries.
|
Voted the Best Organised Grand Prix of 2001 by the FIA
The Crew Chief (Observer) on each post is normally a veteran Marshal with many years of experience.
He or she will set out the ground rules for the weekend and these will be adhered to at all times. Any mistakes or anyone not pulling their weight will be spoken to.
Everything possible will have been thought out carefully and each marshal will be told exactly what they will be doing and for what session.
It's all very light-hearted and great fun, but they (The Canadians) pride themselves on discipline and expertise.

Marshal's View
|
By far, a better organised Grand Prix than the MSA could ever hope for, as far as marshalling goes!
Marshals from all over the world apply to work here!
Not paid like at Silverstone (£15) but polo shirts and other goodies are freely available to officials.
Could you honestly see yourself walking down the Pit Lane at Silverstone on Race Day with just 30 minutes to the start of the race......I did in Canada without any problems.
Lunches are provided as are cold drinks all day, and there is free beer at the end of each working day!
Normally on the sunday evening, all the "Foreign" marshals are invited to the home of Lynda and her family (Lynda is the lady who does all the graft for the marshals) for an informal BBQ and get-together.
If you have been thinking about applying to marshal at a foreign GP - then give Canada a go.....you won't regret it!

Went this year for the first time, & will definately go back, very impressed with the whole setup, only disappointment was having to buy my own programme.
