At each club event, new volunteers are assigned to various positions and trained `on the job'.
A Worker's School is run once/year at Sebring. At that time flag and comm procedures are reviewed. In addition Timing/Scoring, Registration, Pits/Grid, Rescue and Medical specialties are discussed so that all workers get an understanding of what it takes to put on an event.
The highlight of the weekend is a real car fire. A derelict vehicle is provided and various rescue techniques are demonstrated (Jaws of Life, Window Glass removal). The car is then set ablaze and anyone who wishes will be provided with suitable personal equipment and a back up professional firefighter in order to `try your luck' at extinguishing the blaze.
Meals are provided along with an official t-shirt at no charge. Funding is via a portion of the driver's entry fees. | Added by thebear 28/08/2002 02:54
