General Notes
The BMMC is pretty much the de-facto marshals' club in the UK.
A single volunteering form is sent out each year and this is used to volunteer for each event, and the BMMC forwards your details on to the organising club on your behalf. | Added by paul 16/07/2002 07:53

Nearly all regions have green slips for volunteering and/oy additional insurance cover through regional Competition secretaries. North region has a volunteering form for all meetings at Oulton Park | Added by Pete Howarth 24/07/2002 22:19
The BMMC is the body that provides trained marshals in all disciplines to the organising clubs.
With a couple of exceptions (Sprints etc) the BMMC does not organise events | Added by observer 03/01/2003 13:15

Just in case the name confuses you: The British Motor Racing Marshals Club Ltd. started in 1957 on an initiative from marshals at Silverstone and other circuit race venues. Over the 40 years or so since then the activities of the Club's members spread to all other forms of motor sport. So we changed the "trading" name to The British Motorsport Marshals Club. For cost (and other reasons) we have kept the legal Company name. | Added by JimW 04/01/2003 12:18

Speciality
Does this club concentrate on one particular circuit or type of racing?
Not really. The Club's members support all sorts of motorsport. Numerically I guess circuit racing, followed probably by Speed events (Hillclimb, sprint etc.) and Rallying (through the British Rally Marshals Club, which is part of the BMMC). However everything else probably gets attended by a member. | Added by JimW 04/01/2003 12:23

Karting is also covered, with gradings for experience. | Added by Steve Tarrant 03/02/2003 12:18

Benefits
What sets this club apart from the rest?
The members! Our reasons for existence include providing a voice for marshals, organising training and driving along the development of training standards, originating the marshal’s grading scheme and continuing to play a large pert once it was adopted by the MSA, providing more insurance cover for members while at events, providing social events and running the Emergency Services Teams at Donington Park (car/truck racing only) and Cadwell Park. | Added by JimW 04/01/2003 12:28
Training
Training varies from region to region, but generally is informative, entertaining and extremley useful.
However, no amount of training is quite the same as actually dealing with a real incident - and that's the best training you will get! | Added by observer 03/01/2003 13:17

Organisation

Marshal's View
Generally OK, but as the Committee mebers are also
volunteers, getting a reply out of them can be hard going!
Good to be part of THE marshalling club in the UK | Added by observer 15/01/2003 12:51

I've just done my first season of rally and circuit marshalling , and have thoroughly enjoyed myself doing something very worthwhile.I cant afford to compete as a racing or rally driver,so this is the only way to get really close to the action.Without marshals, no event can run safely, so come on lads and lasses get signed up. | Added by mark87 07/12/2004 04:06
