Old Anglesey
Getting There
|
Anglesey Circuit is located just off the A4080 between Rhosneigr and Aberffraw.
Cross the Britannia Bridge onto Anglesey, continue West along the new A55 dual carriageway for approximately 12 miles. Look for the white on brown tourism sign indicating the junction for the circuit. Follow the A4080 signposted Rhosneigr and Aberffraw. Continue past Rhosneigr which is situated to the right of the A4080 on towards Aberffraw. Just under 5 miles from leaving the dual carriageway (A55) look for white on brown tourism signs at a small crossroads and turn right towards the circuit.
Visitors travelling from the port of Holyhead should travel East along the A55 for approximately 7 miles then take the A4080 as described above.

On Arrival
|
Angleysey is a little more informal than other circuits in that you can pretty much park up anywhere (given a little common sense)
There is lots of parking in and around the paddock, and the grassy area off the road into the paddock. | Added by paul 01/07/2002 09:01

Signing On
|
Signing on is usually at the circuit office portakabin next to the paddock exit to the circuit.
Check with the club you are marshalling with for more details as there are many different race classes who work Anglesey and marshalling clubs may change depending on what's running. | Added by EvilPumpkin 06/06/2002 15:21

|
For most meetings signing-on is at the very civilised time of 9 AM.
For BARC & BRSCC meetings sign-on is now in the (closed!) bar. | Added by Dave Brand 19/07/2005 16:27

Lunch / Circuit Customs
|
There is a circuit catering van available on race days that does the usual chips/burgers/sausages etc.
Food is good and not too expensive.
Depending on the Organising Club, Marshals MAY provided with lunch vouchers and a priority queue at the back of the burger van. Check with the Chief Marshal of the event as to whether lunch is provided (Thanks Dave for the Heads up on that one!)
There are both indoor and outdoor areas with picnic tables for sitting down to eat your lunch.
Customs are interesting. Anglesey is a "curfew" circuit and racing must be finished by 6pm. In addition, if the event is on a Sunday, racing must sometimes be halted for an hour during the day to accommodate a service in the local church. The timing of this changes - where possible organisers will try and get this to co-incide with a lunch break but this doesn't always happen.
According to marshal scuttlebutt (and you know how THAT works) this circuit is an ex-MOD testing centre - so watch out for glow in the dark rocks and talking rabbits! :) | Added by EvilPumpkin 17/06/2002 17:13

Marshal's Perspective
|
This circuit is very much back to "grass roots" racing. It's COOL! :)
The rallycross circuit is very rough and runs around the inside of the "racing" circuit. Marshals posts are quite open and there is little in the way of Armco or banking. Posts are mostly stacks of large tyres, so always ensure you know exactly where YOU are, where your extinguisher is and that nothing is blocking your escape route!
Circuit contact is done by radio.
As well as being a great circuit, Anglesey also commands some very spectacular views of both sea and mountains so if you're feeling poetic, do bring a camera - on a sunny day, the view is absolutely stunning!
In terms of weather, like most circuits, Anglesey has its own private weather system. Be prepared for anything from brilliant sunshine to heavy electrical storms and everything in between - sometimes at the same time!
All in all, this is a great circuit. It doesn't have the sophistication of some of the UK circuits, but what it lacks in sophistication it more than makes up for in friendliness, great racing and great fun!
Highly recommended.

I stay at a farm about 2 miles from the track - have done for about four years now.
Average £17;50 pppn with an excellent full english breakfast.
Marshals and drivers alike stay here, and Heather, the owner is very friendly and will do breakfasts early to keep us happy.
The farm is called Ferram Fawr and the number is 01407 810026 | Added by Evian 07/08/2003 14:48

Camping
|
Camping facilities are available but very basic.
You can camp pretty much on any of the grassy areas in the paddock. The nearest shops/off licences/chipper are about 5-10 mins drive away so make sure you stock up before you arrive. With the exception of the catering van which is open on race days, there are no other food facilities within walking distance of the circuit.
There is a toilet block in the paddock which is kept extremely well but there are no shower facilities.
Do ensure that your camping equipment can stand up to fairly heavy winds as it can get very breezy there!
Circuit Catering may not open before you are due out on post, so ensure you bring a method of making tea/coffee and breakfast - don't rely on getting a cuppa and a breakfast roll from the van. | Added by EvilPumpkin 06/06/2002 15:21

Ok thanks for that Gary - I'd been searching frantically last time we were over but hadn't found any.

The circuit bar does now provide food - although I'm not sure when it is open for grub myself.
Also, the circuit has now added a very impressive shower block directly opposite the main toilet block - electric power showers! :D There's 5 male showers, the female block did seem a bit smaller but there's still some there for use. | Added by Asp 28/06/2005 12:56
