On Arrival
|
When you get into the circuit you need to go to the top gate (at shaws) this will put you onto the track. Do not go first left go second this will take you down towards the lake esses you can then turn into the paddock gate. When in the paddock just follow that road around until you see the porta-cabin and that’ were sign on is. Don’t worry about getting lost in the paddock its not very big and there are not many buildings to get in the way. | Added by brickkicker 15/06/2002 18:35

Signing On
|
Follow the directions above and you cant go wrong. To sign on there’ one door in and one door out just watch out for the step. Most meeting flags will be give out to the flag marshals here so make sure you get yours.

Circuit Usage / Configurations
|
There are two possible circuits that can be used at Mallory the first is the oval (the dark purple part on the map above). The second is the full circuit were they use Shaws (the pink part as well as the dark purple part). | Added by brickkicker 15/06/2002 18:36

The circuit was altered recently to include a new section called Edwina's. Used for bikes, it's located towards the end of Stebbe Straight between posts 6 and 7. | Added by Techie 30/04/2004 18:43

1 - Just under the bridge.
2 - Gerards In | |
3 / 4 - Centre Gerards, 3 is on the outside, 4 on the inside - also known as Landing Stage. Down step back too far or you will be in the lake, waterproofs may be needed on a windy day or when the tide comes in!!!
5 - Gerards Out | |
6 - Stebbe Centre - who says straights are boring, when people get it wrong comming out of Gerards this is usually where they end up.
7 - Esses In | |
8 - Esses Out | |
9 - The Oak Tree. | |
10 - Shaws, flag points are on the outside of the circuit (in & out). Obs on the centre green bit. Can make you dizzy - as for the Oak Tree it can feel like standing on the central reservation of the M1 at times.
11 - The Devils Elbow, possibly the quietest posts here, but definately the one with the best view - you can see the whole of the circuit virtually from the flag box.
12 start/finish - Next to startline marshals platform and race control
Post 0 - Now that the grid has been numbered and re-marked post 12 is after the startline.
Lunch / Circuit Customs
|
Gernerally regarded as the best breakfast at any circuit in the UK can be purchased from the circuit cafe. The spuds at lunch time are also very popular amongst marshals from the caravan in the paddock. Unlike some places the cost is resonable, portions & quality good. BRSCC (Midland) provide a free pint after their meetings.
Late starts / Prompt finishes (No racing engines after 18:00) ensure the days are not too long. | Added by Garry Holmes 26/06/2002 09:58

It might be worth pointing out that if you're up late and have to rush to the circuit, then look out for the friendly local shop on the left just before you get to the main entrance.
It is always open on race days and will make up ham, cheese, etc rolls to order if they've run out.

Marshal's Perspective
|
Lives up to its moniker as 'the friendly circuit', the atmosphere is nearly always relaxed.
I would advise any incident marshals to tread carefully when attending incidents, quite literally, as the running areas do leave a lot to be desired. | Added by neilwaynesmith 23/07/2002 12:48
