The 2.415km circuit was built in 1968 and opened in 1969. In 1992, a link from Turn 5 to the Simoco Straight was constructed to form a 1.760km short circuit.

Interesting Fact Barbagallo Raceway Wanneroo is Western Australia's only permanent motor racing venue. In 2001, reverse direction racing was scheduled for the first time on the short circuit.
