Albert Park Overview

Albert Park

Getting There

From the UK flying from Manchester no direct flights but you can change at Hong Kong, Dubai, Kuala Lumpa, Singapore. There are direct flights from London but in reality you will stop over.
Alber Park is easy to get too from the city. The rams are regular and you can get to the trams stops by crossing Queens Road if you are around turns 8 to 14, plus this is the area for the St. kilda road shuttle bus. Tramas are also available between Gate1 ( on Canterbury Road) and turn 5 these again will take you to the city. If marshalling there is a shuttle bus from Lakeside drive to the marshal meeting area ( close to turn 15).

If you are marshalling and there is a group of you you can arrange a car park pass which will get you into the GP area and only 1km from the muster area. Paperwork for the car park pass is sent out with the occasional newsletters sent to marshalls prior to the event.

On Arrival

You will need to collect your passes, overalls, cap and Freebies ( yes there are alot) prior to the meeting. You get told where to go in the information pack that is sent out but when I was there it was through Gate1 at the credentials office. This is off Canterbury Road.
At the meeting you are provided with Food and Water / Coke which you can keep in an eskie ( freezer box) which is provided with ice at your post. Every morning there is a meeting for all marshals which is a basic debrief from the day before. A shuttle bus will take you to your designated post.

Signing On

This is done in a tent close to turn 15. You get some more freebies plus food and drink for the day and ear plugs. This is around the 7am mark.

13 ( with an optional 13.5) - A medium speed right hander with some great views of the cars. Excellent flag point and you get to see the F1 cars really close. Great for the V8's and celeb challange as they have interesting lines through the corner.

Start/Finish - Located just past the actual Start/Finish line right under the nose of race control. The S/F crew also mans the 0.4R Pit Exit Blue Flag post.

Lunch / Circuit Customs

There is NO lunch break but between sesions there is time to eat and if you require water you Sector Marshal will request more from Race control. If you are close to a vendor the food is not expense.
The packed lunch you are provided with is very good.

Marshal's Perspective

Excelent. Well looked after and every night free beer from the sponsors and on Sunday big BBQ and more beer. Would say if you get the chance go you will not regret it. The V8's were the highlight for me and nearly being killed twice by the gorgeous Tania Zaetta in the BMW celebrity Challange. The weather was also nicer than Silverstone. After marshaling here you will not want to do Silverstone.

Local Accommodation

If you are going and going in style try the Crown. Eddie stayed here in 2000 as he did not like the hotel Ferrari put him in. Melbourne is a very popular circuit and has loads of hotels. Specialist companies like Austravel, and Trailfinders are very good at finding hotels in the right area. Melbourne has a good tram system which does go close to the circuit. CAMs might be able to provide info too.

Camping

I am not aware of any facilities but plenty of hotels. CAMs would be able to give advice on it.

To marshal in Oz you should go through your marshals club as they should have the details with out the need of a confrimation letter. However the best people to ask are CAMS ( confederation of Australian Motorsport website www.cams.com.au)
There adress is as follows
851 Dandenong Road, Malvern East, VIC 3145, Australia. or
PO BOX 147, Caulfield East, Vic 3145, Australia. (prefered adress)
The letter should be to the secretary of the meeting.
