Getting There

Rockingham Circuit is in Corby, Northants. Most access roads from the main routes have brown 'Rockingham Motor Speedway' / Checkered flag road signs.

If you can find the large industrial units for RS Components, Morrisons, or Fairline Boats you're not a million miles away.

On Arrival

Parking is usually in the area designated as the Outer Paddock. To get there, drive through the main entrance, and head straight down towards the main building. Just before it, the road curves round to the right. Follow the road round, and the outer paddock area is signposted on the left hand side. Drive through the gate, turn right, and park on the gravel area next to the fence. There is usuallly a minibus in hand to transport you to sign-on. alternatively there is a foot tunnel underneath the Rockingham Building which goes to the main paddock.

The minibus does 3 trips to sign on from outer paddock. Just before, half way through and just before the end of sign-on.
It will take you back to the outer paddock after the event leaving from garage 2.

Signing On

Depending on the type of meeting, sign on will either be in garage 2 in the pit lane, or in Race Admin. This is in the large blue building at the back of the main paddock, next to the infield circuit.

For 2007 sign-on has been moved to garage 12.

Circuit Usage / Configurations

How many layouts would you like? There are four that I have experienced, but there's almost certainly more. In brief:

Full Oval: fairly obvious. Currently used only be ASCAR and the Pick-ups.

Historic Oval: Uses turn 1, turn 4 and the main straight of the main oval, plus the infield road that parallels the "back half" of the main oval.

Island Circuit: Uses only the infield. Used mainly by the racing school.

International Circuit: Uses turn 1, turn 4, and the main straight og the main oval, plus a large chunk of the infield section. Too complicated to explain without corner names on the map.

Most of the infield racing is now done on the circuit layout below, enabling the full turn 1 banking to be used without the need for chicanes, and also using the newly widened and reprofiled 'bike link' to come back onto the main start/finish straight.

To use the T4 banking, a different infield course is needed, including the use of the unpopular T1 chicane

Posts

Click on the post name for details.

24 - Short Link (International Circuit)

Oval Posts - When running on the oval circuit (Pick Up Trucks and SCSA cars only at present), there are several points on the wall with comunication boxes to use a dedicated 'land-line' headset to communicate with race control and the start gantry. The reason for this is that the oval has lap times of 35-45 seconds, so calling incidents needs to be done as it happens for quick response. There are no flag points during the oval races, lights are controlled by race control. You may need a debris stick, to point out to safety teams anything you have seen on track that needs picking up.

The posts usually manned are at T1 out, T2 out, T3 infield, T3 out, and T4 out. Anything else is a bonus. Pit Lane In used to be an essential post but without pit-stop races is not required

The marshals minibus transports between the outfield and infield between sessions, as there is no other vehicle access to the outfield road. Occasionally you may be asked to stay on the outfield and take a short walk to a infield circuit flagpoint, to save moving from in to out all the time.

11A - Entrance to 90 degree corner.

Lunch / Circuit Customs

Usually get a lunch break during SCSA meetings, to allow for circuit displays etc.

Saturdays can be a bit thin on the ground in terms of catering, with only the wagons in the inner paddock open (no good if you're in race control or on the gantry)

Changing from Oval layout to infield layout (whatever configuration) takes 15-20 minutes (and getting quicker).

If it's wet, the SCSA cars will not come out at all (The cars are not suited to it, they have no wet tyres, and they are too fast for wet conditions). The pickup trucks will race in the wet on the oval, the infield races aren't affected

How to Marshal Here - Contacts

All SCSA ('Thunder Sunday') events during 2007 are being organised by the BRSCC - use Julians website for volunteering (please!), as is the F3/GT meeting in September.

BTCC Meeting in April is organised via BARC

Local Accommodation

The Castle Inn & Sleeper at Caldecott (01536 770641) is 10 minutes drive from the circuit and usually has a mixture of officials and teams either staying, eating or drinking there. Go out of the main circuit gate, turn right, then right at the Jet garage roundabout, and right again at the next roundabout (towards Oakham). Go through Rockingham village (watch the 30mph cam at the bottom of the hill), then after 3/4mile on the approach to Caldecott (before the traffic lights) the Inn car park is on the right (the sleeper car park is opposite, on the left of the road).

Other B&Bs are available in Caldecott and surrounding areas, but Corby is a bit short of reasonably priced accomodation (although I have spotted a 'Site Acquired For' sign for Premier Travel Inn near Rockingham recently)

Camping

Space for camping is provided at the southern end of the outer paddock. There is a small grass stip for tents, and a large gravel area for cars/caravans/motorhomes etc. Beware, the whole site is on a slope, so careful pitching is required.
Toilets and showers are provided in portacabins under the turn 1 grandstand (showers are in the brown cabin). Water is available on site, and if you're lucky, you may even get a power hookup.
