ANA - the first real corner on the track 90' left heading toward the beach
usually you get a lot of vehicles goiing down into the runoff
not a bad point for spectator control mainly corprate suites except for the ANA hotel itself (lots of partying there)
also this is the access point for the V8 supercars from behind point 4
some "interesting action" takes place in the highrise units in the area which can give something to look at during breaks in racing ....
Hairpin - last corner (160') leading onto front/start finish straight
slowest corner but you do get action normally from support classes but a Champ car and the odd V8 do go in during races and almost always when its wet (nigel spun 3 times his 2nd yr)
This point is a bit exposed with very little rain/sun protection
Usually 1 fire vehicle and 1 tow truck stationed on this corner with another towie or 2 behind the grandstand with the Police ,St Johns etc
During breaks in the racing you can watch the fools on the hill do their thing, as this is the best veiwing spot for general admit tickets . Also the scene of the Friday night Drags which attract huge crowds starting early Friday afternoon (and they get very upset when the drags get rained out (AGAIN) year after year)
Point 9 ,9.4 etc - Top end of the Circuit ,the slowest part of the track, a tight couple of turns , very narrow so you will usually gets some action ,into the runoff area if little else
No grandstands as this area is all highrise but the Gen public get very close to both point and track so that bears keeping in mind as things do get thrown on the track(dont ask me i just work there)
Fairly good protection from Sun
Pit In - approx 400m down the front straight PitIn is located on the island formed between the track proper and pit lane .
A good post if high speeds and startline carnage are your thing :) .
1 Bad point is that CART will only allow 3 people on point during ChampCar practise , Qual and racing (2 flags and coms) so the other 3 or 4 people get stood down ( good for pitlane walks and pics)
7.6 - Drivers left out of a fast chicane on the back strait , fairly incident free this year (2003) well shaded in the afternoons
Lunch / Circuit Customs
|
same as Bathurst lunch baggie given at sign on (foods pretty good but the muffins are the safe option)
Marshal's Perspective
|
the racing is great ,the weather is usually(i'm crossing my fingers here) pretty good always warm but rain can come in VERY quickly
ahhh the view what can i say if its cars you like no shortage there,as for other things just let me say that there are plenty of offtrack activities that can be a distraction!!!!! hot weather and alcohol provide all the usual acts of stupidity
